Trailer Armory: A Real Conan Steel Destination

Summer is a great time for movie trailers.  Sometimes they end up being better than the movies they promote, which is their job I suppose, for why else would I have suffered through "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" if not for a great trailer?

This time around in the Armory we have a grab bag of films that cover a wide demographic of audiences.  First up is Marcus Nipsel's unnecessary remake of "Conan the Barbarian" starring some scary looking guy named Jason Momoa.

Geez, where's Arnold when you need him?  The film looks about as dumb as the original, but filled with tons of CGI and overedited fight sequences.  Nipsel needs to stop making these sword wielding epics (anyone even remember "Pathfinder?") and return to his horror film roots.  Ron "I'll be in anything with a sword" Perlman and Stephen Lang costar.

Opens August 19th.

Next up in the 'beating a dead horse' category we have the 5th installment of the "Final Destination" franchise, aptly titled: "Final Destination 5."  This one stars horror icon Tony Todd trying to warn a group of bridge suspension collapse survivors (pretty young people) that you cannot cheat Death.

I suppose there's a lot of questions I could ask here, like why is Death so inefficient at killing these kids in the first place?  However, the question that really jumps out at me is; what the hell is David Koechner doing in a horror film??

Opens August 12th.

Our final trailer entry is easily the best of this bunch.  It's the newest trailer for the Hugh Jackman robot boxing movie entitled "Real Steel."

The first trailer failed to impress me, but this one easily broadens the appeal of the material into family friendly territory, possibly making it one of the stronger entries for the Fall movie season.  The quest item is helmed by Shawn Levy, who's directed a handful of crap ("Night at the Museum" and "Date Night"), but looks to redeem himself with a bunch of CGI robots beating the crap out of each other.

Hell, it worked for Michael Bay, so we'll see.  Opens October 7th.

So, is "Real Steel" the movie equivalent to "Rock 'em, Sock 'em Robots"? In that case, the blue robot should aim directly for the chin of the red one and knock his head off. It works every time.

And what the hell...I'll go watch Hugh Jackman wander around in a form fitting tank. Sometimes one has to sacrifice in order to support the arts. :)

Hollywood is so bereft of creativity the are forced to adapt childhood toys into live action films these days.

I can't wait for the film version of Lincoln Logs.
